IN AUSTRALIA
In 2024, Australian youth are grappling with a wide range of challenges:
-
Mental Health: Around 35.9% of secondary students experience high levels of anxiety and depression, and up to 50% report disengagement and a sense of hopelessness(

-
Financial Stress: 86% of young people have encountered financial difficulties in the past year, with 26% reporting frequent struggles. Housing affordability is a major issue, with homelessness concerns rising from 12% in 2022 to 19% in 2024 (The Educator Online) (Monash Lens).

-
Other Concerns: Youth are also highly concerned about the environment, equity, and discrimination. Financial stability remains elusive, with many doubting their ability to own homes or achieve financial security (The University of Adelaide) (The Educator Online).
This combination of mental health struggles, financial instability, and societal pressures underscores the precarious position many young Australians find themselves in today.
